A competition to win a brand new scooter aims to encourage people with mobility issues to come into Life Unlimited’s Store and talk about how they can improve their day-to-day life.
The Have a Go competition, which runs in-store during November in Hamilton, Rotorua, Tauranga and Gisborne, is open to anyone who comes in and ‘test drives’ any mobility gear in the Store, from walking sticks, through to the scooters. The winner of the Invacare Leo Scooter, worth $3,650, will be drawn at the Have a Go mobility event in Civic Square in Hamilton on
3 December 2015.
Rosemary Drake, from Life Unlimited Store, says people should seek advice for mobility problems early on.
“Mobility problems can lead to social isolation so it’s important to get some help at an early stage. It’s amazing the difference a mobility aid can make to someone’s wellbeing and our staff are trained to provide independent advice to find the best solution for each person.
“Even a properly fitted walking stick can give a real confidence boost and, of course, mobility scooters can open up a whole new world to someone struggling to get out and about.”
Statistics from the 2013 Census show that 90% of people with a physical disability have limited mobility.
The Life Unlimited Store, which is part of the disability services charitable trust Life Unlimited, offers free, non-biased advice and information to assist people in making informed decisions via its free Disability Information Service. Store staff can advise on the range of free support available and how people can access it. Check out information on choosing the right mobility aid.
